Industrial / Automotive / After-market

Counter mats for Industrial or Automotive outlets are subject to extreme abuse as someone may come into the outlet and plunk down a 50 lb. generator or other part on the counter mat. They must stand up to this abuse if they are going to provide value to the advertiser. Under these conditions, a foam backed counter mat is totally inappropriate. The foam acts as a cushion which lets the part that is set on the mat punch totally through the mat. We will not sell one without a written release from the buyer. A low tack mat or a mat with a solid plastic back will stand up to the wear and tear of these outlets. The generator may dent the mat, but it won’t punch a hole clear through it. These counter mats are functional for everything from brand awareness to specification charts to aid customers in choosing the right part.

Appropriate types of counter mats

•Low tack pressure sensitive counter mats
These work well as there is no cushion to allow a heavy object to puncture the counter mat. Caution the buyer that some industrial counters may be in too rough a shape to for the adhesive to stick to them. Where the counter material is appropriate, they “reserve” the space for the advertiser.

• Solid plastic counter mats
These mats are suitable for all industrial outlets. They won’t puncture when a heavy object is set on them. They don’t “reserve” the space like a low tack mats as another advertiser can move them aside and replace them with their mat. This style of mat has been used extensively in “Automotive after-market” stores with excellent results.

•Solid plastic counter mats with non skid rubber backing
Same as above, but with a non-skid back so they won’t scoot around on the counter. These must have a heavy styrene sheet between the printed face and the non-skid back.
Face Material

•Scratch resistant vinyl
Won’t show scuffing or light scratches. Will maintain its original appearance longer that other materials. This would be the material of choice for a top quality mat, unless the buyer insists on a gloss appearance.

• Clear Gloss Vinyl

High gloss appearance, but will show scratches quickly.

Backing Materials

•Low Tack pressure sensitive backing

“Best” application as it “Reserves” the space for the advertiser. Low tack pressure sensitive will easily release from the counter top and leave no residue. If subject to extra heavy usage, it’s recommended that a solid plastic back be used with the low tack adhesive. Some counter may not allow the adhesive to adhere properly.

• Solid plastic back (can be used with low tack backing)
Makes a very durable counter mat that holds up well under adverse conditions. Back is usually a 30 or 40 point white styrene.

• Non skid rubber backing (also requires solid plastic back)
Non skid rubber backing is applied to the back of the solid plastic back so the mat won’t scoot around on the counter.
